As he is dying, Arthur commands Bedivere to cast Excalibur into the lake. Bedivere initially does not throw the sword in the lake, but instead hides it behind a tree. He confesses his reluctance to Arthur, then returns to the lake and throws in his own sword instead of Excalibur. Bedivere once again relays his disobedience to Arthur, who requests the sword be returned to the lake for a third time. When Bedivere finally throws Excalibur back in the lake, it is retrieved by the hand of the Lady of the Lake. The hand shakes the sword three times and then vanishes back into the water. A barge appears, carrying ladies in black hoods (one being Morgan le Fay), who take Arthur to the Isle of Avalon. ― LE MORTE D'ARTHUR (WIKIPEDIA) Avalon was said to be the mysterious isle that the magical beings of the King Arthurian legend took up residence at. From here the might sword of Excalibur came, and Arthur would be taken to the isle after his battle with Mordred. That is the legend throughout the multiverse. However, this Avalon has far more to it than the legends that have managed to seep into the various universes. The universe that Avalon finds itself in lies at the heart of the multiverse. From the Heart of Avaon, every universe was born and created. The Royal Family saw to it that the multiverse was maintained. In many ways the Imperial Royal Family saw themselves as stewards or caretakers to the multiverse. They didn't interfere with the walls between realities and simply kept their own universe going. If the Heart of Avalon fell, then so would the multiverse. • The City LORELEI is the home city of the main story and the characters that find themselves in this world. The city is broken down into four (4) major districts that are all capable of housing characters. Each area will list who lives in which below. The City of Lorelei is a port city. Trade and commerce of all kinds flood through the city's crescent shaped bay, filtering into the rest of the Kingdom of Avalon. It is also the home of King Balin Pen'Dragon, who moved the capital to the city after the marriage to his Queen. Since the move over thirty years ago, the capital has been Lorelei. However, it does not act as the cultural religious center nor the center of magic and understanding. Those remain in their ancestral homes.
